Annual Accounts and Corporation Tax
We’ll prepare your annual accounts and corporation tax returns, file everything required with Companies House and HMRC, and make sure every deadline is met. You’ll always know where things stand, what needs to happen next, and if there’s anything that needs your attention.
When we support you throughout the year, most of the work is done as we go. That means your year-end is usually a straightforward process, not a last-minute scramble.
What to Expect
Timing
Before your financial year finishes, we’ll check in to see if there’s anything we can do to improve your tax position before the books are closed. We then aim to have your accounts prepared within three months of the year-end, giving you plenty of time to review the figures and plan ahead.
Review
Once your draft accounts are ready, we’ll send them to you and arrange a meeting to talk everything through. We’ll explain the key figures, answer any questions, and make sure you understand what you’re signing off rather than just trusting it’s right.
Filing
Once you’ve signed off the accounts, we’ll file everything that’s required with Companies House and HMRC. We’ll send you confirmation when everything has been submitted, along with copies of the filing receipts for your records.
Looking Ahead
We’ll update your accounting records with any year-end adjustments so your new financial year starts with the correct balances. If there are opportunities to plan ahead or improve things for next year, we’ll talk those through with you.
Frequently Asked Questions
When do my accounts need to be filed?
Most limited companies must file their accounts with Companies House within nine months of their year-end. We aim to prepare accounts within three months of the year-end, giving you plenty of time to review everything, plan ahead, and budget for any corporation tax that’s due.
When is corporation tax due?
Corporation tax is usually payable nine months and one day after your year-end. We’ll let you know in plenty of time how much is due, when it needs to be paid, and how to make the payment, so you’re not worrying about it at the last minute.
What do you need from me?
What we need depends on how your records are kept. If we manage your bookkeeping, we should already have everything to hand. If you have a bookkeeper or look after your accounts yourself, we’ll send you a list of the information we need and where to find it.
If we have any questions along the way, we’ll let you know as early as possible.
Can you prepare my accounts if you don't do my bookkeeping?
Yes. We’re happy to prepare your accounts and corporation tax return, even if we don’t look after your bookkeeping. We’ll explain any adjustments we make and provide the information needed to update your accounting records, so everything starts the new financial year in the right place.
Will I get to review the accounts before they're filed?
Absolutely. We’ll send you the draft accounts and corporation tax return and arrange a meeting to talk through the figures and answer any questions. As a company director, it’s important that you understand what you’re signing, so we’ll make sure you’re comfortable with the accounts and reports before anything is submitted.
Do I need annual accounts and corporation tax returns?
If you run a limited company, you’ll normally need to prepare annual accounts and file a corporation tax return each year, even if the company hasn’t traded. Sole traders have different reporting requirements and don’t pay corporation tax.
