Financial Strategy
Sometimes you need more than another spreadsheet. You need someone to talk it through with. You don’t need ongoing support, but you could do with an experienced pair of eyes. That’s where a financial strategy session comes in. We’ll focus on a particular question, decision or project and help you work it through.
These sessions are about the finances of running your business rather than tax planning, although where tax is relevant, we’ll make sure you understand the implications. Think of it as having someone to call on when you need a bit more support than usual, without needing them there all the time.
What to Expect
We do our homework
Before we meet, we’ll get to grips with what you want to discuss and do any research we need beforehand. We may ask you to complete a short questionnaire, share some financial information or have a quick preliminary chat with us. The idea is to do the groundwork first, so we can spend the session working on the problem rather than getting up to speed.
Time to talk it through
Your strategy session will take place online, giving us time to properly work through the question, decision or project you’ve brought to us. We’ll talk through your options, dig into the numbers where we need to and challenge your thinking when it’s useful.
Everything written down
After the session, we’ll send you a written summary of what we discussed, along with our recommendations and the key actions that came out of the conversation. You’ll have something useful to refer back to rather than trying to remember what on earth we said three weeks later.
Know what happens next
The point isn’t to have an interesting conversation and then carry on exactly as before. You’ll come away knowing what you’ve decided, what still needs thinking about and the actions we recommend you take next.
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of things can a Financial Strategy Session cover?
Pretty much any question where the financial side of your decision needs some proper thought. You might want to look at your pricing, understand the implications of taking someone on, work through a new idea or product, or figure out why something isn’t performing as you expected. If you’re not sure whether what you have in mind is suitable for a session, get in touch and ask us.
What will I get after the session?
We’ll send you a written summary of what we discussed, along with our recommendations and the key actions that came out of the session. What that looks like will depend on what we’ve been working through, but you’ll have something clear to refer back to afterwards.
Do I need to be an existing client?
Not at all. Financial Strategy Sessions can be booked as a standalone service, so you don’t need to use us for your accounts or anything else. If you are already a client, you can book one whenever there’s something that needs a bit more time and attention than our usual conversations.
What do I need to prepare beforehand?
That will depend on what you want to discuss. We’ll let you know what we need from you before the session, which might include financial information, an existing forecast or some background on the decision you’re considering. We may also ask you to complete a short questionnaire or have a quick preliminary conversation with us.
Can I come back to you with questions afterwards?
Of course. If you need us to clarify something we discussed in the session, you’re welcome to come back to us. We’re not going to disappear the minute the meeting ends!
What if we uncover something that needs more work?
Sometimes one question leads to another. If the session highlights something that needs a deeper look or a separate piece of work, we’ll explain what we believe is needed. There’s no obligation to take it any further with us. If you’d like us to help, we can do that where appropriate, or if it’s something your existing accountant or another adviser can deal with, we’ll tell you what you need to ask them for.
Penny for your thoughts?
